Effect of Substrate Placing Style on Morphology of ZnO Arrays

The ZnO rod arrays were fabricated by two steps chemical methods. The first step is deposited ZnO seed layer on ITO substrate by hydrothermal method. Then ITO substrate transferred to a mixture solution zinc chloride and ammonia hydroxide solution with a pH value 11,and heated at 85 ℃ for 2 h,then pre-synthesized precursor treated at 600 ℃. The crystal structure,morphology and optical property of the sample were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),high resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM),UV-vis absorption spectrum and photoluminescence spectrum(PL). The results show that high density of ZnO nanorods arrays grew vertically on the ITO substrate. The diameters of the nanorods are about 150 nm and the length is about 1 μm,the crystalline ZnO nanorod grown along the ZnO [0002] direction. ZnO nanorod arrays show strongly absorption in the range 300 nm to 400 nm; PL measurement has demonstrated intensive UV exciton luminescence at 380 nm.The effect of the placed patterns of substrate and ZnO seeds layer on morphologies and optical property wereinvestigated. Finally,the probable chemical reaction and formation mechanism were discussed by the analyzing of reaction process and the results obtained in this study.
