Synthesis of β-Sialon by Low-temperature Solid-phase Nitride Coupled Reaction

In the atmosphere of nitrogen,adding Y2O3 as a sintering additive,β-Sialon was synthesized under solid-phase nitride couplied reaction,using Al metal powder,Si metal powder,α-Al2O3 as raw material. The effects of Y3 +at different temperatures on the composition,grain size,lattice parameters and microstructure of β-Sialon phase were studied. The crystalline phases and microstructure were determined by XRD and SEM respectively. The lattice parameters and crystallinity of the crystalline phases were estimated by X'Pert plus software. The phase composition was evaluated by Semi-quantification method.The results show that as the temperature increasing, the content of synthesized β-Sialon phase is increasing and can be the most at 1550 ℃. When adding Y2O3,the β-Sialon phase can be synthesized at low-temperture,and the substitution of Al3 +by Y3 +lead to structural distortion of β-Sialon phase; as the temperature increases,the β-Sialon phase is increasing,and the grain size can increase from 0. 208448nm3 to 0. 236776 nm3. When the β-Sialon is synthesized,Y2O3 and Al2O3can be easily formed needle shape YAG.
