Study on Size Controlling and Photocatalytic Performance of Bismuth Ferrite Granular Materials

The bismuth ferrite(Bi Fe O_3,BFO)particles with different particle sizes were fabricated via sol-gel method by changing the amount of tartaric acid in the precursor solution.The samples were characterized by means of XRD,SEM,UV-Vis,PL and ferroelectric analyzer.The influence and mechanism of particle size on photocatalytic activity of BFO were discussed and analyzed.The results show that all products are crystalline BFO granule.The particle size decreases with the increase of tartaric acid addition,leading to a blue shift of visible absorption threshold wavelength and an improved photocatalytic activity.Under the condition of visible light irradiation for 150 min,the MB degradation efficiency of BFO with particle size of 80 nm reaches up to 75.7%,about 2 times higher than that of BFO with particle size of 600 nm,which may be mainly attributed to the high specific surface area(6.472m~2/g).
