The Investigation of Lubrication Performance for Liquid Crystal Additive

In this paper, The tribological properties of a modern lubrication additiveliquid crystal additive are investigated and some conclusions are given The result shows that the effectiveness of these additives is related with their concentration and types. For instance, the friction coefficient decreases with the increasing concentration of additives when the lubricant contains (0.1—1) % additives HOB. The friction coefficient of the planar contact friction pairs is decreased from 0.108 to 0.013, and the wear rate is greatly decreased when the load is 15 MPa, the velocity 0.504m/s and the lubricant contains 1% additives HOB. It shows that the liquid crystal, as a kind of effective additive for decreasing the friction coefficient and resistance to wear, has a good prospect in the future industrial applications.
