The Friction-reducing and Anti-wear Properties of Layered Calcium Silicate as Lubricating Additive

Oil acid (OA) surface-capped layered calcium silicate particles were prepared in an anhydrous medium,which show good dispersion and stability in several base oils and liquid paraffin.The tribological properties of the prepared product as additive in liquid paraffin was evaluated on a four-ball machine and MMW-1P test machine.Wear scar surface and element spectrum were analyzed by SEM-EDX.The results show that as additive in liquid paraffin at proper concentration,the modified layered calcium silicate can promote the friction-reducing and anti-wear properties of liquid paraffic.Easily sliding between layers,layered calcium silicate as lubrication additives can reduce the friction coefficient.The flaking off layered calcium silicate because of extrusion deformation of crystal structure during friction process forms the lubricating film containing Ca and Si in the friction surface,which plays a good anti-wear role.Layered calcium silicate has excellent friction-reducing and anti-wear properties for its special layered structure.
