Thermal Stability of Several Solid Lubricant Additives and the Influence on Base Oil Viscosity

The thermal stability of common solid lubricating additives was studied based on the DTA curves of copper,nickel,tin,SiO2 nano-particles and ultra-fine serpentine powders which tested by synthesis thermo-analysis instrument.The influence of different mass fraction of Cu-Ni-Sn nano-particles,SiO2 nano-particles,ultra-fine serpentine powders on base oil viscosity and viscosity index(VI) was discussed by Ping’s capillary viscometer.The results show that copper,nickel,tin,SiO2 nano-particles and ultra-fine serpentine powders have relatively stable thermal properties,there is no oxidation phenomenon occured below 200 ℃ and they have no effect on the viscosity and viscosity index of base oil,and can be used as lubricant additives.
