Application of fish-mouth dam in Dongxikou waterway regulation engineering in upper Yangtze River

According to the evolution characteristics and the variation laws of channel condition of Dongxikou waterway,a pebble and braided reach of upper Yangtze River,the idea of regulating the left branch of Dongxikou waterway by fish-mouth dam was put forward. Two-dimensional mathematical model was used to compare three planned regulation measures,and the optimized one was selected in terms of navigation index. We also analyzed the flow and sediment characteristics of the fish-mouth dam and the jetty head's local scour by movable-bed model test. The results show that the arrangement of fish-mouth is rational for optimizing the flow and sediment diverting,the scouring effect is relatively serious at the jetty head area,where should be reinforced. The results can provide reference for Dongxikou waterway regulation and similar projects.
