Research survey of self-healing microcapsules used in cement-based materials

The durability of concrete has attracted more and more attention to domestic and foreign scholars. In order to make effective diagnosis and immediate repair of concrete cracks, self-healing technology based on bionic principles was introduced. Among them, the research of self-healing microcapsule filled in cement-based materials is hotspot. This article made a systematic review about the research process of self-healing microcapsule that prepared via situ polymerization. It introduced the concept and mechanism of microencapsulation and self-heal of composite materials and the influencing factors of microcapsules morphology quality such as the amount of emulsifi er, stirring speed, the p H of emulsion. And the infl uencing factor affecting self-healing properties of composite materials were also introduced, such as the materials of the core and shell of microcapsules and the particle sizes of microcapsules. In addition, the evaluation and characterization methods of microcapsule self-healing effect were proposed from the viewpoint of the physical and mechanical properties and permeability properties of the matrix. Finally, a comprehensive description and outlook of the problems and research prospects of current microcapsule self-healing composite materials were made in the text.
