Water and Sediment Regulation-A Key Measure for Solving Siltation of the Yellow River

LIU Shan—jian(Department of Retirement,Ministry of Water Resources,Beijing,lO0053)  
The paper deems it might require billions of cubic meter of water for sediment transport purpose if we want to solvechannel deposit problem of the Yellow River based on the outcome of tests and study on water and sediment regulationconducted by departments concemed and combining the water and sediment regime of the Yellow River in recent years.The objective of no sedimentation can be achieVed along with the strengthening of soil and water consenrvation work.improymg the bed form and making up water from other river basins. It suggests to take water and sediment regulation as the leading strategy for harnessing the river,strengthen research work,tackle key problems and start official implementation as early as possible.
