Experimental Research on the Anti- Erosion and Vegetation Promotion for Sandstone Region in the Yellow River Basin

Based on the great demand for the prevention and control of soil erosion and ecological restoration,a novel concept of anti- erosion and vegetation promotion was proposed for the ecological fragile sandstone region of Loess Plateau. A new type of environmental composite material( W- OH) and as- based method were developed,which could protect the sandstone from erosion and promote the vegetation. A series of experiments were performed in laboratory and field. The results show that the sandstone consists of a large amount of montmorillonite,calcite and feldspar. The porous micro- structure in the sandstone is the reason why the sandstone is easy to be eroded. The W- OH is characterized by excellent penetrability on the surface of sandstone. An elastic composite film of W- OH- sandstone can be formed when the W- OH solution is sprayed on the surface of the sandstone. The composite film has excellent durability and vegetation promotion function since the UV resistant and vegetation agents are added to the W- OH composite. The in- field experiments show that the W- OH and as-based method are effective in the prevention of sandstone erosion and ecological restoration. Comparing with control sandstone zone,the runoff has decreased by 70% ~ 75%,and the sediment yield has decreased by 90% ~ 99%. A novel measure with the application of composite materials is,thus,confirmed to be of high affectivity in the prevention and control of soil erosion and ecological construction of extremely ecological fragile areas.
