Study on the Changes of Water Conveyance Losses Before and After Canal Lining in Yellow River Irrigation Area of Ningxia Municipality

Water conveyance losses for canal lining in the Yellow River irrigation area is one of the key parameters for water rights transfer in Ningxia,which determines the quantity of water- saving and water- saving project scale. The calculation of conveyance losses of irrigation canal was discussed in this paper. The dynamic water method and still water measurement were used to estimate the water conveyance losses before and after canal lining respectively. The results of dynamic water method show that 0. 054 m3/ s. km of the water conveyance losses is reduced in the main canal,which accounts for 55% of water conveyance losses before canal lining. Water conveyance losses are reduced in branch canal,which accounts for 56% of water conveyance losses before canal lining. The results of still water measurement show that infiltration intensity of canal lining in lateral canal is 27% of earth canal,which means that 73% of the water conveyance losses can been reduced.
