Research on the Influence of Weak Aquifer of Deep Overburden Layer to the Impermeable Effect of Cutoff Wall

In terms of constructing a dam on the deep overburden layer,anti-seepage of dam base foundation is a key stage of the whole project. Adopting the analysis by means of the finite-element software Seep / w,this paper researched on a specific model of earth-rock dam whose foundation had strongly and weakly permeable thick overburden layer of dual structure. It studied the impact of dam foundation seepage flow and the extrusion grade of foundation and seepage grade at the end of cutoff wall by changing the depths of cutoff wall and cut-off form,which conducted comparative analysis on influence law under conditions of suspended cut-off wall and semi-closed cutoff wall and totally enclosed cut-off wall. It shows that the seepage discharge of dam foundation and seepage exit gradient descend significantly( decrease 54.3 percent and 70 percent respectively) when the cutoff wall passes through weak aquifer,and the suspended cut-off wall gets into the semi-closed cutoff wall. So,the united seepage control of weak aquifer and cut-off wall can significantly improve the anti-seepage effect of vertical cutoff wall,and the effect of the semi-closed cutoff wall is greatly superior to the suspended cut-off wall. The best depth of the vertical cutoff wall is the depth that the cut-off wall has just passed through the weak aquifer on the dual structure of thick overburden layer. When the cutoff # wall is getting into the weak aquifer,the seepage grade at the end of cutoff wall steep rises and it should pay enough attention to the project,to prevent the occurrence of local seepage failure.
