Problem in Calculation Methods of Sediment Reduction by Soil and Water Conservation Measures in the Yellow River Basin and Approach to Improvement

Hydrologic method and soil conservation method are two usual methods for calculating sediment and runoff reduction benefit brought by watershed management,but both have some problems.The hydrologic method relies on sediment yield model on the basis of rainfall and sediment data which can not exactly reflect the natural rule of rainfall-sediment.The soil conservation method relies on sediment reduction quota by soil conservation measures which can not entirely con fort to actual situation.The paper put forward three improved method:contrast method of natural sediment yield in small watershed,sediment reduction index method by surface integral measures and largest possible sediment yield method.Trail calculation result indicated that under the condition of essential prerequisite,the calculating accuracy of the sediment reduction benefits of watershed management by using the three methods would be greatly increased.
