Waterpower Resource Development and Relative Issues in Yellow River

oncentrated mainly in four reaches, i. e., Maqu to Yehuxia,Yehuxia to Qingtongxia,Hekouzhen to Longmen,and Tongguan to Huayuankou,the waterpower resource able to be developed in Yellow River is 28219000kW. Until the end of 1995,there are eleven waterpower stations constructed or in construction with total installed capacity of about 8920000 kW which accounts for around 31 percent of the possible developed waterpower resource in Yellow River ; the accumulative total power created by the seven constructed stations is 27390 million kW. h with total output value of 17800 million Yuan that equals four times of the investment for the stations. According to the plan,there would be total 47 waterpower stations built along the mainstream of Yellow River with annual power creation of 11540 million kW. h and the highest water heads add up to 3131. 4 meters. Because there are a lot of problems in Yellow River,such as high sediment content,hard task of flood and ice protections,the operation conditions in Yellow River are more complecated than that in rivers with less sediment content. The issues such as the key projects comprehensive operation,step power stations connection,maitaining effective storage of the stations,the wear and tear of water flow of high sediment content to hydraulic turbines and structures,and others,are necessary to be taken intO. account in waterpower station planning and designing.
