A Probe into the Reasons for Tenant Farmers' Hardshipsin Recent Chinese History

Liu Kexiang
Under the feudal landlord-tenant system, the tenant-based household economy has a histori-cal process of creation, growth and perishing.Destitution of tenant farmers and poor farmers' change into farm workers in China's recent history are not equivalent to traditional feudal exploitation and wealth disparity, rather, they are extension and expansion of the early European and American primitive accumulation of capital. They not only take a feature of Medieval bandit-like plundering, but also show themselves in the form of exploitation of agriculture by industry and of the rural areas by cities, which makes tenant farmers and rural capital flow into the city, and eventually into foreign countries.Though it was even impossible for tenant farmers to maintain simple reproduction and the barest necessities of life, the exploiters failed to develop capitalist mode of production.Com-pletely eliminating the feudal landlord-tenant system and establishing the socialist system is the only way in the development of Chinese history.
