Looking at China's Hidden Social Hazards by Examining Consumption Problems

He Hui
Though China's reform and development has entered a new stage, its rapid economic development has been held back by a major problem of small consumption contribution to GDP.This problem has a link to many other social hazards, such as wealth gap between rich and poor, system defects, and moral decline. This paper suggests striving to increase workers' wages and people's income;expanding yet balancing infrastructure construction in all parts of the country;taking a variety of tax systems to promote rational redistribution of social wealth;increasing transfer payment between governments of different levels;arranging more funding for culture, education, and science and technology;improving rural social safety net,and maintaining sustained and steady agricultural development;and protecting natural environment and arable land from pollution.
