A General Review of the Development History of China's Sea Power Theory

Zhang Wei
Mahan's sea power theory is an important theory in supporting the rise of the US.As regards China, emphasizing the development of sea power does not mean to follow the journey of Western marine hegemony. In contemporary China, sea power is an integral part of national overall strength and strategic capabilities as well as the means to achieve the strategy of peaceful development and marine security.Developing China's sea power is not an impulse decision, but an unavoidable major choice for China's national strategy.China's sea power should mainly be comprised of national marine strategy, government's ocean management mechanism and marine forces.
