The Internal Logic behind Modern Japanese Social Changes

Wang Ping
After the Meiji Restoration and the Heisei Restoration,Japanese society still had not successfully determined its development orientation:the "Western" or the "Eastern" road. The Japanese government implemented a "realism-based" foreign policy, while an undercurrent of "idealism" was growing among people at the bottom of society.Though there are certain differences between China and Japan in terms of cultural tradition, social structure and pace of modernization, striking similarities also exist between the international strategic environment modern Japan experienced and the one facing contemporary China. In the future,China and Japan,as two major countries in Asia, must conscientiously complete two "tasks" which are about how to handle their respective relations with the US and how to adjust the conflicts between them.
