On European Civilization From the Perspective of New Humanism

Wang Yiwei
The European debt crisis and the crisis of European civilization it reflects, alongside a range of challenges Chinese faces in its efforts to advance toward the sea, have urged us to introspect and update our concepts on Chinese civilization, European civilization, and even human civilization. China has become a world-leading country. It cannot still learn from or catch up with other civilizations like before, or stick to the old pragmatic logic of "Chinese learning for fundamental principles and Western learning for practical application". However, it must transform its civilization and then promote the transformation of human civilization. As the only civilizations that have existed continuously in a non-secular form, Chinese and European civilizations hold as the hope of global governance. Hence, the author calls for China and EU to work together to create a new paradigm for human civilization, ensure sustainable development of human civilization, and bring about integration of Eastern and Western civilizations.
