Leopold's Interpretation of On the Jewish Question
The Young Karl Marx by David Leopold of Oxford University is a great work of the Western Marxism academia in recent years. According to the book, On the Jewish Question represents the first public argument between Marx and Bauer and was also one of the most controversial texts of Marx. Leopold believes that such mistaken interpretation is mainly because we are not familiar with nor understand Bauer's thought and simply treat him as an important "the other" in the study of Marx's thought. Therefore, only by deeply understanding the ideological dialogue between Bauer and Marx and grasping the unity of political liberation and human liberation, can we reach out to the "common problems of the present-day era" and realize individual freedom.
