Sheng Weili,University of National Defence
This paper,on the basis of geopolitics, analyses the essence of the relation-ships between the international political powers and the global geographical conditions(i.e.geopolitical relationships),namely what are the interrelationships, constraints and influences as well as the law of their changes brought forward by their geographical positions, comprehensive national power and strategic inte-rests in the various regional political system.Under the"Geographical positions",the author lays special emphasis on an analysis of the spacial relative position,of nations and their effects upon the international political relationships. In the "Comprehensive National power",the author mainly expounds the contents of the national power from a perspective of the geographical elements which form a part of the national power. The geographical element of a nation is a major measure of the status and role of the nation in the international community. In the part of"Strategic Interests",the paper gives a specific study to the strategic relationships among nations in the international community, the essence of the strategic relationships is,as a matter of fact,a reflection of the interests of each nation as the national interest is the principal basis, according to which one nation works out its strategic decision-making.The above mentioned three factors(i.e.geographical positions comprehensive national power and strategic interests)are not of equal importance. In fact, the geographical relationship among spacial positions is the precondition;the contrast between the strong and the weak in the area of national power,is the basis;and the intertwined relationship in the field of strategic interests is the foundation.
