An Image Analysis on the Islet βCells of Neonatal Rat after Injection of Glucose

Newborn Wistar rats were treated with glucose (G) for 6 days and the animals were killed on the tenth day after birth. The islet βcells were showed by the immunohistochemistry (PAP method) and the Medical Image Processing System was used to measure the diameter of islet, the positive immunereactive area and relative gray degree of βcells. A definite rise in the positive immunoreactive area of βcells was observed in G--treated rats. It seems that the glucose could accelerate the prodution and storeage of insulin in the βcells.
