Effect of Melatonin on Content of MDA and Activities of GSH px,CAT,Ca~(2+)-ATPase In The Aging Rat Liver

For exploration the anti aging action of melatonin in liver, the effect of melatonin on the production of lipid peroxide and the activities of oxygen free radical clearing system and calcium clearing system in the aging rat liver was studied. Melatonin was used to replenish to newly old rats for 30 days. The content of malonaldehyde(MDA) and the activities of glutathione peroxidase(GSH px),catalase(CAT),Ca 2+ adensine triphosphatase(Ca 2+ ATPase) were measured with biochemical methods. Results: the content of MDA in liver was significantly lower in the experimental group than that in the control group about 31.2%; The activities of GSH px,CAT and Ca 2+ ATPase were increased about 25.1%,49.6% and 25.4% respectively in the experimental group. The results indicate that melatonin may have an effect on clearing oxygen free radical,free calcium ion and protecting hepatic cells.
