The Expression of Epidermal Growth Factor in Spinal cord of Adult Monkeys

Objective The expression of epidermal growth factor(EGF)in spinal cord of adult monkey was observed. Methods EGF specific antibody immunohistochemistry technique (SP mothod) was used. Results The positive reaction of EGF was observed in the plasma of neurons.These neurons with strong positive immuno-reaction signals were big motorial neurons detected in anterior anteromedial nucleus,anterior nucleus and anterolateral nucleus,also the big neurons in nucleus dorsalis of Clarke.The moderate positive neurons were detected in anterior posteromedial nucleus,anterior central nucleus,anterior posterolateral nucleus,anterior retroposterolateral nucleus,intermediomedial nucleus and the area around central canal.And the weak positive neurons were mainly located in nucleus posteromarginalis,substantia gelatinosa,nucleus proprius cormu posterior and nucleus commisuralis posterior.Furthermore,a few positive glias and fibres of EGF were observed in white matter of spinal cord. Conclusion EGF immunoreactivity is extensively distributed in the spinal cord of adult monkeys,and may be related to various types of neurons.These information can be used to probe into the role of EGF in the spinal cord of the primate.
