Research Progress on HBV PreS1 Protein

Yi Tao(Gynecological Tumor Biotherapy Laboratory,West China Second Hospital,Sichuan University,Chengdu 610041,China)
Hepatitis B virus(HBV),one of the leading causes of hepatocellular carcinoma and liver diseases,is a DNA virus of the hepadnaviridae family.Hepatitis B virus(HBV) infections constitute a major global health problem.Hepatocellular carcinoma is one of the most serious malignant tumor in the world which are considered as the third cancer-associated cause of deaths worldwide.Although our knowledge about the molecular biology of this highly liver-specific virus has increased, the mechanism of attachment and entry into its host cell is still unknown. The HBV PreS1 protein is located on the HBV surface and plays an important role in viral infectivity and assembly. To block HBV entry and against viral infection,a couple of approaches based on PreS1 peptides are currently under investigations, which have the potential to become novel antiviral therapeutics.
