The Value of 24-hour Active Electroencephalograph Monitoring to Diagnose Syncope and Epilepsy

Objective This survey was made to explore the value of 24-hour active electroencephalograph(AEEG)to diagnose syncope and epilepsy.Methods A total of 52patients with paroxysmal loss of consciousness were reviewed in Kailuan General Hospital from January,2008to August,2013.Combined with clinical characteristics,the record of routine electroencephalograph(REEG)and AEEG were made diagnose and differential diagnose of syncope and epilepsy.Results Among the 52cases,27(27/52,51.9%)were confirmed as epilepsy,19(19/52,36.5%)as non-epileptic seizures,6(6/52,11.5%)were uncertain.A total of 27patients with epilepsy diagnose records presented epileptiform discharges.A number of 5(5/19,26.3%)were confirmed as cardiac origin of syncope,12(12/19,63.2%)as vasovagal syncope,2(2/19,10.5%)as postural hypotension syncope of the 19cases with syncope.Conclusion It is better worth of 24-hour active electroencephalograph in differential diagnose of diagnose syncope and epilepsy.
