Effect of Six Atypical Antipsychofics Agents on the Lipid Metabolism

Objective This study was aimed to investigate the effect of six atypical antipsychofics agents(chlordiazepoxide;risperidone;olanzapine;quetiapine;aripiprazole and ziprasidone)on the lipid metabolism in patients with schizophrenic.Methods A total of 150patients with schizophrenic were divided into 6groups.Patients in 6groups were given chlordiazepoxide,risperidone,olanzapine,quetiapine,aripiprazole and ziprasidone for 8weeks respectively.All patients were tested Body Mass Index(BMI),fasting blood.total cholesterol(TC),triglyceride(TG)and low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL).Results After 8weeks' treatment,(1)the BMI,TC,TG and LDL was significantly increased in group treated with chlordiazepoxide,risperidone,olanzapine,and quetiapine treatment could also increase the BMI,TC,TG and LDL level,but which was significantly lower than the group of chlordiazepoxide.The groups treated with Aripiprazole or ziprasidone showed no significantly difference in BMI,TC,TG and LDL level.Conclusion Chlordiazepoxide,risperidone,olanzapine and quetiapine have significant influence on patients lipid metabolism.
