A Morphometric Study on Subtantia Nigra Pars Reticulata of Epileptic Rats Induced by Coriaria Lactone

This experiment was carried out with ten adult male SD rats, weighing 200~250g,5 for experimental group,other 5 as control.The epileptic activity was produced by Coriaria Lactone in experimental group and the control animal replaced by saline solution.The substantia nigra pars reticulata(SNR)was studied quantitatively after seizures for lh.The area of substantia nigra,numerical density of SNR neurons,and the mean diameter of neuronal soma and it's nucleus were measured directly under light microscope.There was no obvious change in experimental group as compared with control.The areal fraction of SNR neuronal soma,neuroglial soma, blood vessels and neuropil were measured stereologically from sections.There was no difference between two groups.The areal fraction of rough endoplasmic reticulum,mitochondria,Golgi complex,lysosome,free ribosome and cytoplasmic matrix were measured stereologically from electron microscopic films and the numerical density of free ribosome was counted also;The positive changes were the decrease significantly in the areal fraction of rough endoplasmic reticulum and free ribosomes and the numerical density of free ribosome.For the volume of substantia nigra,the size and number of SNR neuron were no obvious changes in experimental rat,these changes of experimental SNR neurons suggest that the protein synthesis activity in SNR neurons decreased.
