Zhang Chongyu, Li Fengshuang, Shi Xiaojun (Dept, of Animal Veterinary Science, Shandong Agri. Univ., Taian, China 271018)  
The energy requirement and its metabolic rule of replacement billy grey goat were studied by feeding, digestion-metabolism testing, gas-energy metabolism testing, and comparative slaughtering during the whole period. The result showed: (1) The live weight gain per day (△W) was correlated significantly (P0.01) with metabolizable energy intake (MEI): MEI=3.733+0.554△W. (2) There was a significant linear correlation between the total heat production (HP) and the metabolizable energy intake (MEI)(P0.01): HP/W~(0.75)=245.18+0.436MEI/W~(0.75). (3) The net energy for gain of per gram was correlated with live weight: E_(△W)=1.025W-10.33. (4) The total ME requirement (kJ) for maintenance and live weight gain (gram) of replacement billy grey goat could be estimated: MER=481.6W~(0.75)+(9.0W-90.6)△W.
