Ricin is a ribosome-inactivating protein(RIP) that is highly toxic to eukaryotic cells. It removes the specific adenine residues from the 28 s r RNA conserved sequence of the eukaryotic ribosomal large subunit, thus terminating the process of protein synthesis and leading to cell death. In this paper, the process of ricin synthesized and transported out of plant cells and the progress of ricin transported into mammalian cells are briefly described.
