Optimization of Engine Oil Pan Based on the LMS Experiments

Oil pan is a major source of engine radiated noise. Through analyzing the region of resonance frequency produced by engine and oil pan, topology optimization is carried out on the structure of oil pan and the model structure is improved. The result of optimization shows that both increasing the thickness of larger-density location and reducing the smaller-density location can increase the stiffness and the inherent frequency of the model. In this way, the resonance with the engine can be avoided well and the noise of engine can be reduced. The accuracy of structural optimization of the engine oil pan is improved with LMS experimental method.
