Review of Transmission Loss Research of a Car's Exhaust Muffler

The exhaust muffler is a key component to enhance the automobile acoustic performance. Its transmission loss acquired accurately in a reasonable and effective way is a significant basis of the structure design, performance analysis and optimization improvement. The advantages and disadvantages of the three typical muffler sound transmission loss simulation methods such as the transfer matrix method, finite element method and boundary element method are compared, according to the review of their development and application, and the situation of the muffler sound transmission loss test measurement method is summarized. Further research in considering the airflow and temperature factor has certain significance in the muffler research based on the actual condition of muffler characteristics.
