Structural Optimization of EGR Cooler Based on Thermo-fluid-solid Coupling Analysis

The problems of insufficient cooling strength and cracking are often presented in application of EGR cooler, which influences its performance of exhaust gas recirculation. The internal fluid field of the EGR cooler was simulated by using the thermos-fluid-solid coupling analysis technique based on the finite element analysis software. The results are verified that insufficient cooling strength and cracking problems of EGR cooler were caused by the insufficiency of internal flow field and excessive sector thermal stress. As a result, the structure of EGR cooler was optimized by increasing segmental baffles and convex grooves and improving the flange structure of the outlet. The simulation and experimental results of the improved cooler show that the cooling intensity enhanced and the cracking problem solved.
