Study on Influences of Inlet Water Injection on Performance of Single-cylinder Diesel Engine

The simulation model of a single-cylinder diesel engine is established by using GT-Power software; and experimental data are used to calibrate the model to achieve sufficient prediction accuracy. On this basis, the influences of water quality injected and flow rate on the overall performance of a single-cylinder diesel engine are studied. The results show that the overall performance of the diesel engine is the best when the water/oil mass ratio is 30% and the water flow rate is 10 kg/h. Compared with the baseline engine, power and fuel economy increase by about 3 %, Soot emissions decrease by almost 9.8 %, and NOx emissions decrease by almost 12.8 %.
