From “Seeking Similarities”to “Reserving Differences”: A Review of Comparative Study Between Carson Mc Cullers and Chinese Writers

This essay observes the process from "seeking similarities"to "reserving differences"in the comparative study between Carson Mc Cullers and Chinese writers. In the comparison between Zhang Ailing and Mc Cullers,scholars stress their similarities from many different aspects; studies on Su Tong and Mc Cullers try to demonstrate certain common grounds between their writings; as for the comparison between Mo Yan and Mc Cullers,Mo's innovation is emphasized while his imitation of Mc Cullers' writing is also concerned. By analyzing its limits and problems,this essay also points out the lack of concern for the research significance and its prospect. In the final part,under the principle of"seeking similarities while reserving differences",this essay also provides certain potential perspectives and issues for the future study.
