From Linguistic Theory to Theory of Recognition: Honneth's Reflections upon and Reconstruction of Habermas' Communication Theory

Honneth reflected upon and reconstructed Habermas' communication theory in order to argue for the necessity of "turning of theory of recognition" of critical theory. On the one hand, he confirmed the importance of Habermas' communicative theory to overcome the difficulty of critical theory. On the other hand, he declared that only "the scornful social dynamics" represents the future of critical theory; and he gave labor the important meaning in the development program of the critical theory, and attempted to avoid the limitation of the narrow understanding of communicative patterns. He emphasized that communicative patterns could not be understood as linguistic theory, but theory of recognition.
