The Evolution the Language of Homosexuality in Chinese Movies

Homosexuality is a marginal subject matter represented in Chinese movies. However, it has become a mode of discourse criticism in western movie theories and movie creation. In Chinese movies, the language for expressing homosexuality is inadequate in general. Its expression in movies has undergone three stages: before 1990s, the language used was usually "vague and ambiguous"; in the 1990s, it was "running out of the closet"; at the beginning of 21st century, it has become "an element of fashion". In view of the tendency and the depth of the language used since the 90s, homosexuality in Chinese movies has bee established as mode of discourse.
