The Idea of Social élan in "Economic and Philosophical Manuscript of 1844"

DONG Hui (Department of Political Education, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan 430074, P.R.China)
Social élan is a motive factor facilitating the construction of harmonious society, and it is also the motive power for the renovation and advances of human society. As release of energy, social élan is implicit in "activity". There is a dialectic relationship between activity and élan, which means that the latter must be generated from the former, and that if something is full of élan, it must be active. As an important category in the historical materialism, social élan should be considered to be the motive factor in the construction of harmonious society, which is of great significance in the development of society and human beings. A lot of ideas of social élan can be found in Marx's classical writings, especially in the "Economic and Philosophical Manuscript of 1844". In this paper, the author first analyzed the relationship between alienation and social élan, and then elaborated on social élan from four aspects: humanity, circumstance, morality and emotion.
