Analysis on flood interval by principle of maximum entropy

Time interval of two flood events is a random variable,and its deterministic analysis is ill-posed to some extent but important to utilization of the natural flood resources.The analysis presented in this paper is based on the principle of maximum entropy and hydrological data.This analysis reveals that the density function of flood interval fits exponential distribution.Flood interval data were collected at Jiangjie River hydrological station.A comparison of our calculations with these observations shows that the method of using exponential distribution is effective in calculation of the density of flood interval.
