Analysis of elastic modulus impact on stress and deformation of concrete cutoff wall in dam body

Whereas the Goodman element is widely used in simulation of the contact of two different materials,at times it causes large errors in calculations of stress and element overlapping.This paper puts forth a modified contact element that has its own thickness and adjustable connection in normal direction,i.e.,connected to innumerous springs if its displacement is less than its thickness,while to innumerous rigid rods if greater than its thickness.This new element was applied to an earth-rock dam cutoff wall built with concrete of low elastic modulus to simulate its contact with the dam body and calculate the stress and deformation,and the influences of modulus variation on the stress and deformation were also analyzed.
