Numerical analysis on lateral vibrations of Francis hydro turbine generating units

This paper presents a vibration calculation model and numerical analysis for a Francis hydro turbine generating unit,considering the effects of guide bearing stiffness and thrust bearing stiffness,unbalanced magnetic pull,hydraulic force and mechanical force,focusing on FEM analysis of the lateral vibration behaviors of the unit's rotating components.The influences of bearing stiffness and rotational frequency on the lateral vibrations at different locations of the unit,were analyzed under stiffness nonlinear variations with eccentricity.To obtain effective comparisons,the stiffness of these bearings was adjusted simultaneously,and the frequency adjusted under the fixed bearing stiffness.Results show that at different components of the unit,the influences are significant,and that besides the stiffness and frequency,the unit's vibration responses also depend on its vibration mode.This work is useful for vibration reduction and optimization of the support structure of turbine generating unit.
