Average Stress Strain Curve with the Effect of Residual Stresses for Compressive Rectangular Plates in Ship Structures

To calculate the ultimate longitudinal bending moment of ship hulls,it is essential to command the average stress strain relationship of the compressive rectangular plates,including the nonlinear post buckling and post collapse behavior.The method proposed by Gordo and Guedes Soares was employed to generate the average stress strain relationship of the compressive rectangular plates by means of the existing empirical formulae. The effect of welding residual stresses was discussed.Based on the investigation into the stress distribution in the plates during different stages of compression,an approximate method to generate the average stress strain curve of compressive rectangular plates with residual stresses was developed by taking into account the condition of static equilibrium.
