Longitudinal Residual Strength Analysis of Damaged Ship Based on Code Requirements

This article compared the requirements of IACS、ABS and DNV codes, transferred the requirements to the limit state functions of reliability models and achieved the probability assessments. The example of a 70000 DWT bulk carrier was given. The determined residual strength factors and reliability indexes based on IACS and classification codes were compared and the codes' safety requirements were obtained. The results prove that the requirements of IACS are stricter than the requirements of ABS and DNV and the condition of shear requirement in codes is rigorous which could hardly be satisfied under the flood.
