Trailing Edge Incision to Improve the Match between Power and Revolutions

A harmonic match between power and revolutions is important to any vessel. It is known that some shortening of blade trailing edge can reduce propeller loading. In this paper, the trailing edge of two propeller models (A,B) with sections of NACA 66 mod. a =0.8 were cut off by 3%,5%,7% of the chord length. Then the variances of pitch and camber were calculated and open water tests were carried out. According to the results of full scale trials a simple method of incision was offered to improve the match between power and revolutions.
