A Genetic Algorithm to Determine Minimum Break Point Set for Optimal Coordination of Directional Protection Relay in Multi-loop Networks

In view of the determination of the minimum break point set in directional protective setting and calculation of multi-loop complex power network,new concepts of protection dependency dimension and primary/backup protection dependency set were put forward. The comparison of protection dependency dimensions and the depth-first-search of protection dependency set can form all the directional simple loops. Using the heuristic knowledge of minimum break point set (MBPS), the determination of MBPS is reduced to a 0-1 integer quadratic programming problem. On the basis of the principle of genetic evolution, a new approach to determine MBPS was presented.The protection coordination of T-connected lines and radiate network can be dealt with by the method. The example shows that the algorithm is very simple, effective, and can reduce the complexity.
