STUDIES ON THE RADIOACTIVE BREEDING WITH SOFT X-ray

Gu De-fa, (The Crop Breeding and Cultivation Research Institute, Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences)  
The rice were radiated with soft X-ray (Mo. Target) in this experiment. The results show that the radiation of the sprouting seed of Early-seasen indica rice Guang 4. (O. Sativa indica) is reliable because of its weak penetrability. The radiation LD50 was about 13kR for sprouting seed and it was 140kR for dormant seed. The mutation rate of main agronomic characters of X_2 from radiated (14kR) sprouting seed obtained was 6.05%, and the X-ray tubes need cooling with running-water.
