A trial with 5 species of warm-season green crops was conducted under the conditions of normal growth (without fresh grass cutting) and abnormal growth (with frequent fresh grass cuttings)during the summer of 1991. Studies showed that the Mexican teosinte has a long vegetative growth period with high yield and good quality of fresh grass,so it has a vast future to be developed as a green crop for live stock and fresh water fishes.The Sudan grass has a short growth period and is characterized by early maturing and tolerance of frequent frest grass cuttings, so it can be used as fist food supplied in summer for fresh water fishery. The sorgo M-81E, with stems rich in sugar, is a middle maturing type,intolerant to frequent fresh grass cuttings owing to weak tillering, so it is fit for close planting to get high yield and suitable to be ensiled and used in feeding dairy cattle.
