EFFECTS OF VITAMINS AND AMINO ACIDS ON GROWTH AND POLYSACCHARIDE AMOUNT IN Asparagus officinalis L.

it was reported that 3 vitamins(B6, nicotinic acid and inositol) and 4 amino acids(Arg, Asp, Asn and Gln) affected the growth and polysaccharide amount in asparagus calli. Nicotinic acid (10mg/L) could promote increase in growth and polysaccharide amount of calli, and inositol (200mg/L) increased the polysaccharide amount greatlyl however, B6 (1. 0mg/L)showed inhibitory effect on both growth and polysaccharide amount. The optimun concentration of nicotinic acid was 2mg/L. All 4 amino acids promoted both growth and polysaccharide amount especially Arg (10 ̄ 20mg/L) and Gin (10mg/L). At concentration less than 5 mg/L, Gin promoted the growth slightly lower than Arg did, however at concentration increased to 10mg/L or more,it promoted the increase in growth and polysaccharide amount much stronger than Arg. The clones No. 6 and No. 25 were selected from 28 clones for further researches, The two clones with good morphology grew rapidly and their average polysaccharide amount 17. 5% was more than that of the middle part of asparagus stem in fields.
