A Simplified Method for Side Sway Analyze of Semi-rigid Composite Beam Frame under Serviceability Limit States

Flexural stiffness of beams and columns is the lateral displacement stiffness of semi-rigid frame structures without bracings.On serviceability limit states,the design of structures is likely to be deter- mined by sidesway,not the bearing capacity.This paper is concerned with sway study on the behavior of the semi-rigid composite connections steel frameworks.According to the concept of the equivalent stiff- ness beams,the frames with semi-rigid connections were simplified to the equivalent rigid frames.The e- quivalent rigid frames and practical semi-rigid composite connections steel frameworks were analyzed and the results were compared.It can be concluded that the sway of semi-rigid frame structures in the limit serviceability state,can be predicted by the equivalent rigid frame structures with equivalent stiffness beams.
