A Study of Apoptosis and Gene Regulation in Peripheral Blood Lymphocytes of Aging Rats

The apoptosis in peripheral blood lymphocytes(PBL) of rats was demonstrated by TUNEL staining method and flow cytometer to determine the percentages of apoptosis in PBL of rats in different ages In addition,the changes of expressions in related Bcl 2,Bcl xl and Bax genes were observed by using immunohistochemical method The results showed that typical apoptotic cells were observed in the PBL of aging rats and the percentages of apoptotic cells were significantly higher than those of the younger rats There was down regulation in the expression of Bcl 2 and Bcl xl in PBL of aging rats,but the Bax expression remained obviously high It suggests that apoptosis exists in the immunocytes of rats in the course of aging and it consists with the expression of the related regulatory genes
